I got a letter from the Home Bursar's secretary in my pigeon hole, marked 'Urgent'. It told me to re-word my grant application and hand it in by '5 pm today'. It was dated the 27th. Darn.

To add to the day's joy, we had a class with Dr. Greene today. Jon was not present. We were not surprised. We now no longer see him in lectures, practicals, classes or tutorials. We now no longer see him. The class itself was an excellent example of its kind. We began at five o'clock. By seven it was dark outside, hall was closed and we'd only finished three of the seven questions. We adjourned for the evening. Mark, Huw, Dave and I went for a wholesome dinner at McDonalds. Dave and I then worked in the library for the evening. 'Work' is perhaps not the correct term, since we spent some time seeing how many books could be balanced on our heads, and the rest of the time complaining about work, in true chemist style. Another profitable evening then.
