I dragged myself out of bed at 6.30 this morning to go to the Mumeishi 3's kendo competition. I had to get to Trinity college for 8 to get a lift to Hounslow. This meant that I got to see a Saturday morning. Real morning. Not just Saturday lunchtime, but real Saturday morning. It wasn't anything to write home about.

The competition was interesting, although I didn't get to fight since the teams were already filled and there weren't enough people to fill a third. Our 'A' team managed to win the entire competition, which was largely due to the efforts of Kaz, our fifth dan Japanese instructor who led the team. We also organised the varsity match for next term with the Cambridge team who were competing (they got knocked out in the first round, as did our other two teams). Hopefully I'll get to fight in that.

My post-win celebrations were minimised by the fact that I had considerably less money in my wallet than I thought I had - evidently Friday night had been more alcoholic than I remembered. We also got Japanese food after the competition, which meant that I had to learn how to use chopsticks. They seem easy enough to use once you get the hang of them, although I still have to learn to stop accidentally flicking my food across the room as the sticks slip. Life is one big learning process.
