dung
For various reasons I've been looking into the use of lion dung to repel cats. While digging I found a transcript of "Gardeners Forum", a BBC local radio show.
Joe: I had always heard that lion dung was pretty good, you get lion dung from London Zoo, there is a two year waiting list for lion dung, but apparently it does the job because they think there is a much bigger predator there and it will scare them off.
Ken: No Joe, we do trials of products on our programme in Essex and I can remember this big thing about lion dung being the greatest thing and we gave it out to three listeners. One listener had no response at all, but the other listeners found that it was nice dry soil that year and in fact they spread the lion dung around and they actually found that the cats went to sleep on it because it was quite a soft ground. So actually lion dung didn't work in Essex.
Joe: Well while they are asleep they are not going to damage your plants!
Ken: Well there is a point there!
There's something wonderful about shows like this. They make me think of sunny summer days, spent listening to old men called Ken and Joe talking about nothing of any great importance.

dodgy
Got on the bus this morning, and flashed my travel card, only to be called back by the driver and informed that my pass was out of date. Which it was.
At times such as these, I always find myself proffering lame excuses in embarrassment or - more frequently - decent excuses which I make sound lame. I really should just get off and walk away.
I felt quite flustered walking to the station. I don't like people thinking that I was intentionally going to avoid paying the fare. What's worse is that the travel card I bought to get me in to work would have covered the journey. It just came a bit late.
