f1 teams discover the benefits of documentation

Giancarlo Fisichella has been awarded the Brazilian Grand Prix, after a timekeeping error had meant that Kimi Raikkonen had been announced as the winner.

This is all good, since Fisichella was in the lead when the race was stopped, but has lead F1 bigwigs to debate the count-back rule that had caused all the trouble. As the BBC reports:

It emerged at the meeting that no-one could remember why there was a two-lap countback rule for the specific circumstances that arose in Brazil. ...

"In this case, we will have the right result, but the question is why is the rule there and is there a need for it," the source said.

"It's been there a long time, so there might be a good reason why it's there."

I get exactly the same problem when I look back at my old code. I know I put in that subroutine for a reason, but I've no idea what that reason was.

dreams and alarm clocks

Somewhat late for work today, due to oversleeping. I set two alarms: one to wake me up, the other to get me up. Today, I mananged a very vivid dream in between the two, and switched off the "get up" alarm thinking it was my "wake up" alarm.

I then had a very pleasant hour or so of lying, half-asleep, thinking "I wonder when my alarm clock will go off."
