safety warning

I accidentally bought Tesco's "easy lighting charcoal" which was a mistake. It's the stuff which comes in a paper bag which you set fire to, and it all goes up. Simple, yes, but smoky and not very long-lived.

Today I also found out that you shouldn't use it when it's a bit windy. I ended up chasing bits of smouldering paper as they blew across the garden and threatened to set fire to the grass. It was a slightly fraught time.

Still, the ribs came out lovely and the potatoes (chipped, with sliced onions, salt, pepper and butter in a foil bag over the coals) were very nice indeed.

But buy lumpwood charcoal folks. Please.
