phase and frequency
The fire alarm control panels on one of the stairwells in the building having been complaining about errors by making a sort of soft pinging noise. There's a panel on each floor, and nine floors, and they're all slightly out of phase. The overall effect is a sort of audio waterfall cascading down the stairwell. It's rather nice, although the "warning bell" undertone is a bit unsettling.
It reminds me of some flashing arrow signs in Hammersmith bus station. They were flashing at slightly different frequencies, and so drifted in and out of phase over time. We waited at the stop for quite some time, and I ended up in a bit of a trance watching them.

blue?
A wall in the corridor near my office is blue. Dark blue. What's upsetting me is that I can't remember if it has always been blue.
Have I been walking past it for months without registering "blue"? Or has someone re-painted it recently, and I just missed it? I'd notice someone re-painting a wall, though, wouldn't I?
