tom jones

Listening to Tom Jones doing duets makes you realise just how powerful Tom Jones's voice is. "Burning Down The House" with the Cardigans, that medley with Robbie Williams - all you can hear is the amplification of the other singer's voice.

You just don't seem to get the club-trained singer these days. I can't quite imagine Girls Aloud coming up through the nightclubs of the land. Or doing Vegas, for that matter. (Vegas might be trashy, but at least usually opts for decent acts.)

I've been known to do a somewhat boisterous homage to Mr. Jones myself, along with other inebriates, from time to time. There's nothing like belting out "The Green, Green Grass Of Home" for rounding off an evening and, indeed, clearing a venue.

I'd do "Delilah" only I can never remember the words.
