never rent a movie you've never heard of

Browsing the shelves of Blockbuster we came across a copy of Dungeons & Dragons. We'd never heard of it, but the back cover had a good sounding review from the Guardian (and Mizz magazine, actually, which didn't really bode well now I think about it) and we fancied a bit of swash and buckle.

It was a bad movie. Really very bad. Jeremy Irons was clearly just trying to pay the bills, and did some bad overacting. Thora Birch just did some bad acting. The script was sufficiently formulaic that we could bet on the most likely next line. The special effects weren't very special (even for 2000).

So remember, people: when you see a movie on the shelves and think "well, I've never heard of it, but it looks like it might be OK" just stop, put the box down and walk out. You're clearly not in a good place, film selection-wise. Better to put your feet up and read a book that night.

oh sod it

I give up. I tried to break the mould and use serifs. I tried to free myself from Arialland. But - dammit - sans serif just looks better. I worry that it doesn't actually look better and that I'm just aping other good blogs. But then again there are enough counter-examples to make that a nonsense.

Maybe it doesn't look better. Maybe I've redesigned for naught.

Still, it's lovely shiny CSS and stuff. It's measured in ems so it scales with your chosen text size. And if you still desire serifs, there's an alternative stylesheet with serifs in it. There's a greenscreen one too, if you're feeling retro. I like CSS.
