I feel much better now my CDs are in alphabetical order. I had to buy some extra racks now that Sara's CDs have arrived (I suppose it's "our collection" rather than "my collection" now).

The ordering of a CD collection is, of course, a very complicated process. Well, deciding on the rules for ordering is. I subdivided them into albums, singles, and compilations. After that, it's alphabetical. Words like "the" and "a" at the start of a band or title are ignored. Personal names are ordered as "Surname, Forename". Personal names in band names are ordered as written, thus "James Taylor Quartet, The". It works quite well, I think.

I'm now listening to all sorts of CDs I'd forgotten I had.

Oddly, I have no albums by artists whose names begin with "X". Every other letter is represented. 25 from Parker, Maceo to Pulp. 20 from Badly Drawn Boy to Burke, Solomon. Only one Y - Yo La Tengo - then E, I, V, W, and Z each have two. But no Xs. Maybe I should go out and buy an XTC album.

My work laptop has been a bit unwell for a while. The PS2 port died a while back, so I've been using its built-in keyboard and "trackpoint" mouse thing. Then the keyboard broke.

I've had a strange USB Mac keyboard for a while but no mouse, so I've got rather used to reaching over the keyboard to the trackpoint blip.

I've now got a shiny wireless keyboard and mouse which plugs into the USB port and so all is rosy. Only I keep forgetting that I have a mouse. It's going to take a it of getting used to.
