complaint
To celebrate Sara's job offer, we went to the Royal China on Queensway. We used to go there quite regularly and liked it. We referred to it as "the posh Chinese place".
I don't think we'll be going back. The last time we went, we had to wait twenty minutes before anyone came to take our order (and even then we had to accost a member of staff before anyone took any notice of us). The food was decent enough, though, and we'd worked up an appetite.
This time the service was slow, we didn't get any snacks before the meal and when the lemon chicken arrived, we found it was fine apart from the fact that it was missing the chicken. We sent it back and didn't ask for a replacement since the chicken curry was large enough (and edible enough) for us to share.
We asked for the gratuity to be removed from the bill, which led to a more senior person coming over to ask us if anything was wrong. (They do that when they're going to lose money; no-one had bothered to ask if our meal was OK before.) I amazed Sara by actually listing our complaints, explaining why we weren't happy and generally being wholly not British.
She's a bad influence on me. I'm starting to expect good customer service.

much jubilation
Sara's been offered a job! Hurrah! It's a provisional offer - she needs her references to come through and a background check and things - but it should all be OK. We'd rather given up hope, to be honest, and assumed that the call was to say "sorry, you haven't been selected". It's nice to be wrong sometimes.
So, we'll be moving to Oxford soon. Not looking forward to the commute into London, but it won't be much worse than my commute on the Underground and, hey, we won't be living in London!
Ah, happy for so many different reasons.
