royal tenenbaums

We rented "The Royal Tenenbaums" this evening. I've been meaning to watch it for a while.

I liked it a lot, particularly its style (which reminded me of "Amelie"). It was the sort of film where I feel like I've come back up to the surface once it's over - that feeling of total immersion. But, rather annoyingly, I can't come up with anything specific about why I liked it.

new blue jeans

Sara came home today, having been out shopping, with a new pair of jeans for me. They'd been on sale in Gap, which meant that they were actually sensibly priced. (Sara can't normally bring herself buy stuff from Gap over here; it pains her to pay such high prices, especially since there's a Gap Outlet store near her parents' home in the US.)

They fit perfectly.

vile food

The canteen excelled itself today. The "chicken tortilla with vegetables" was actually inedible. It was a sort of rolled up, burritoish type affair, topped with cheese and "salsa". I don't know what they'd done to the vegetables, but they left a really strong, unpleasant taste in the mouth. Or maybe it was the chicken.

I had two bites and left it. I thought about taking it back and complaining, but the canteen's a reasonable distance from the office and I was all complained out after yesterday's excitement.
