thai

We went for dinner at a Thai place on Cowley Road. I've not actually eaten at a Thai restaurant before, although I've had the odd Thai curry here and there.

It was nice enough, but nothing amazing. Possibly the sheer unexpected heat of my green curry took something away from my enjoyment. I had thought that it was milder than a red curry; if that's the case, then I'm glad I didn't try the red one.

Sara had a nice chicken dish with vegetables, pineapple and honey. We had rather dull starters of deep fried vegetables, spring rolls, etc.

So, not a resounding success, but nice all the same.

puntage

We went punting with Ed and Ed's sister Kaye and a bloke she brought along called Ben (I think - I kept forgetting his name for some reason; I'll call him Ben for now, anyway).

As usual we went to the Cherwell Boathouse. We had to wait an hour for a punt, but that's not a major problem on a nice sunny day. We sat and nibbled on Pringles and Jaffa Cakes.

It was a lovely punting day - no wind to blow you off course, lots of sun to bask in. Too many people on the river, of course, which led to a bit of a log-jam at times, but nothing a bit of prodding with a paddle couldn't fix.

We fed the ducks rather too many Pringles (I'm sure crisps aren't supposed to be part of a duck's diet).

Ed managed to lose the pole at one point (a very muddy bit of river bottom). I managed to drop the pole on Ben at another. I also nearly ended up in the river after tripping over my own feet. But otherwise, uneventful and peaceful.

I do like punting.
