massage
I had my first massage today. I've had really tense muscles in my neck and shoulders for the last few days, and so I decided to get it fixed properly.
Apparently I'm tense. In the words of my masseuse, "I didn't finish the massage, because I don't think your body could take any more." I must admit it was rather painful at times - she found knots I never knew I had - and being told at times to "breathe through the pain" was a little off-putting, but it seems that massage does tend to hurt a bit when you're fixing big problems. The most difficult bit was trying to relax while she was working on the most knotted muscles. Because it felt strange, or painful, I had to stop my body from scrunching up and rebelling against the treatment. I was quite impressed that such a small woman (and she was really very small) could exert such pressure - she had a good go at pushing me through the massage table at times.
But once she'd finished, I felt much, much better. Slightly swimmy and light, and certainly more relaxed. She showed me some stretching exercises (my chest muscles are too tight, and are pulling my shoulders forwards) and told me to sleep with a hot water bottle on my shoulders for the next week.
I reckon I'll be a bit sore tomorrow. A nice warm bath is calling me.

belt up
Either the waistband of my jeans has stretched, or I've lost some weight. The scales seem to favour the former.
I need to find my belt now, since it's a bit off-putting to have my jeans become more and more fashionable as I walk down the street. I have yet to find an elegant way of hitching them back up again.

optimal commute
Managed to get a good commute this morning - bus arrived almost straight away, straight on to the train from the bus, the usual walk from the station to the tube and straight on to the tube.
It still took me 1:45. I think I need a new job.
