bahjee

I ate the onion bahjees I got from Marks and Spencer this evening. More palatable than the , but still far from great. A rather insipid batter, and the dip that came with them was a bit tasteless.

Note to self: get onion bahjees from a curry house; get Chinese food from a Chinese takeaway.

rebus

I finished Knots and Crosses, the first Inspector Rebus novel by Ian Rankin. I'd hear good things about the series, and bought it while waiting for a train so I'd have something to read.

I enjoyed it, generally, although it suffered slightly from a rushed ending (or, rather, an overweight middle which squeezed the end too much). He spent rather too much time making coy references to Rebus's murky past and not enough on the actual plotting and detective work. So the ending is sort of a "oh, it's so obvious, right let's get him" type of thing.

I'm not rushing out to buy the next one, but next time I'm faced with a flight or a long train journey and I'm killing time in WHSmith, I'll probably pick up the next one.
