gallery 1: infra red

go back

These photos were taken with Ilford SFX 200 film and a Jessops R2 filter (roughly a Wratten 25). SFX 200 is sort of sensitive to infra-red (up to about 740nm, for people who like numbers) as well as to visible light. It doesn't see heat, just some reddish light that the human eye can't see. With the light red filter, the effect isn't too dramatic.

Chairs

Trinity College has some lovely gardens. There are various sets of tables and chairs on some of the lawns, but since it seems wrong to walk on the grass, they always seem rather alone, unused.

Doorway

This gate is in Trinity College, Oxford. I've walked past the other side of it one most days in the past three years or so, but I only recently got round to see its hidden side.

Garden

More of Trinity College. Trinity is almost right in the middle of town, but still manages to have these peaceful places.

Gateway

I've never been sure where this gateway leads to. I think it's a bit of Mansfield College, but I could be wrong. I'll walk down the path and find out some day.

Park

I don't know what grasses these are, but I still rather like them.

Pavilion

The University Parks include the cricket ground where Oxford play their home matches. The pavilion sits in the middle of the parks, in the trees.

South Parks Road

Another building I walk past daily and never see. In most cities this little plot of land near the city centre would have been sold and the house flattened. I think it's owned by a college (Wadham, probably) and so it's still there. Change? We fear change. And rightly so, sometimes.
